British U18 Handicap Singles Tournament 2013
This event was held once again at Seacourt over the weekend of 21st/22nd December. There was a really good entry of 36 juniors with many different clubs being represented.
The “B” competition was held on the Saturday for the higher handicap players. Four round robin groups produced semi-finalists Ollie Jameson (Seacourt), Oscar Fountain (Oratory), Max Jones (Seacourt) and William Flynn (Seacourt). There was very little to choose between these four but Max & Oscar made it through to the final. In the final 10 year old Max struggled to match the superior power of his older opponent and Oscar went on to win the event 6-0 despite many close games.
On Sunday the “A” grade section took place to find the British Junior Handicap Singles champion. Once again four round robin groups were played and the semi finalists produced were James Bargent (Prested), Benedict Yorston (Radley), Georgie Willis (Seacourt) & last years winner Oscar Wright (Petworth).
Georgie & James won their way through to the final which turned out to be a great match. James raced ahead early on but then Georgie came back and almost managed to square the match at 5-5. However it was to be James’s victory coming out on top 6-4 to take the title and the trophy.
Our thanks as always go out to John Higney of Purrunna who was the generous sponsor of the event and who also provided every junior that entered with a tennis T-shirt.
