Under 18 Singles Handicap Tournament 2010
Dec 18, 2010 - Dec 19, 2010 Seacourt P C Weaver
*Under 18 Singles Handicap Tournament
This event was held once again at Seacourt over the week-end of 18th/19th December. There was a record entry of 45 juniors and the tournament got away on the Friday evening with a mini tournament for the seven under 10 year olds that entered. This was won by promising Seacourt junior Huw Thomas who beat Ollie Blake (Seacourt) 8/6 in a close final.
Horrendous weather conditions across the South on Saturday morning meant that sadly quite a few competitors due to play were unable to make it down to the south coast. However the competition went ahead with the 29 remaining players. On Saturday the €B€ event for beginners with the highest handicaps ended with an all Petworth final between Oscar Wright and Theo Hunt with Oscar coming out on top winning 8/4 in an entertaining final.
On Sunday the €A€ grade section took place and the final was an all Seacourt affair with two 17 year olds, Max Gunning & Jon Cobon in their last year as juniors. The final was very close until midway through but then Jon powered away to win 8/4 and take the trophy.
Our thanks go out to all the parents who managed to struggle through the snow to get to us especially the 2 players from Cambridge who had an epic six hour journey. The prizes were presented by John Higney of Purrunna who are the generous sponsors of the event.
