*Pol Roger Trophy Final 2024

The final of the 2024 Pol Roger tournament was played on Saturday 2nd March at Hampton Court Palace. Last year's winners, Queens Club were defending their title against Seacourt who had not won the trophy for 14 years. This event is a knockout tournament, the FA Cup of Real Tennis where each club enters a team made up of their seven best amateur players.

The first match on was the 2^nd doubles with Tom Weaver / Mark McMurrugh playing for Seacourt against Harry Eddis / Mike Bailey for Queens. A very close match ended with a win for Queens 6/4 2/6 6/3.

Seacourt were fielding a group of very young singles players and the pressure was now really on them. First up was 19-year-old Max Trueman playing #1 singles against Rory Giddins. No nerves for Max who cruised to a 6/3 6/2 win. The match score was now level and next on was Seacourt’s 21-year-old Will Flynn playing Henry Mullan. This was a much closer match with Henry taking the first set before Will stormed back to win 3/6 6/2 6/2. And so on to the 3^rd singles which featured Seacourt’s youngest player James Medlow at just 18 years old! James took on the Queen's captain Jonny Whitaker and showed no sign of nerves in this crucial match. Despite many long and exciting rests, James won the match and the Pol Roger Trophy 6/3 6/2. The final match was now a dead rubber with the Queens pair of Bertie Vallat / Richard Elmitt defeating Luke Danby and Charlie Danby 3/6 6/4 6/0.

The match was extremely well supported particularly by the vociferous Seacourt contingent! Thanks go out to the Royal Tennis Club for hosting and providing a superb lunch, Pol Roger, and of course the T&RA.
