Manchester Gold Racquet 2013
Oct 25, 2013 - Oct 27, 2013 Manchester B Hegarty
A great showcase of top amateur tennis saw two groups of 5 competing for the Gold Racquet. Matthieu Sarlangue (from Paris) was a strong contender and seeded 1 in the draw. The round robin groups were competitive with some 'surprise' results. A mention must go to young Charlie Braham, who despite having a higher handicap made some big dents in the tournament. His great run couldn't quite last the semi-final where he came up against the powerful James Coyne. Coyne's hard hitting and consistency won him the match 6/3 6/3.
In the final Coyne gave it everything but Sarlangue was too good. He eased around the court, picking up the most unbelievable gets and always dropping the ball just out of reach. A fantastic final and exciting for French tennis as they have a real Champion on their hands!
Final : Matthieu Sarlangue bt James Coyne 6/1 6/1
