Henry Leaf Cup (Old Boys Tournament)
Sponsored by Neptune Investment Management
Moving the venue of the Henry Leaf competition to the Burroughs has undoubtedly given this popular event a real shot in the arm there were 22 applications for the weekend which could only accommodate 17 pairs, I can only once again apologize to those who were unable to play. Next year we will reserve a full day on Friday to get over this. Both Saturday and Sunday mornings began very well with a far sighted Canfordian (Corin Jenkins) producing sizzling bacon rolls at 7.30 to cater for the early start, we didn't have any no-shows and no players showing up late during the whole two days ! There were some excellent matches particularly in the Handicap tournament and the final between Wellington 2 (Robert Allison & George Tysoe) and Clifton (Johnny Beale & Will Grieg) was a superb contest which Clifton eventually won 10 games to 9. The Henry Leaf level competition also produced a final of the highest standard with last years winners (Adam Dolman & James Acheson-Gray) facing a strong Harrow pair (John Prenn & Charlie Danby) over the best of 3 sets. The first set was fiercely contested with Harrow just winning it 6 / 5, the second they then lost 0 / 6 but they then came back strongly to take the third 6 / 1. The splendid Henry Leaf Cup was presented by Sir Andrew Hamilton, Chairman of the TRA Tennis Committee at the end of a very enjoyable weekend's tennis. I should like to thank Matt Ronaldson and Ged Eden for arranging for us to have this at the Burroughs and also for marking the matches so efficiently, also a special thanks to Matt for helping with the scheduling and formatting of both competitions. |
