* Field Trophy Final 2025

On a beautiful spring day at Moreton Morrell the team didn't mind being indoors with a confident winning start from number 2 doubles pair Nicola Doble and Ed Popplewell. Ed showed no signs of rust, consistently hitting and beating very short chases from the hazard end. Nicola brought her always-effective serve and volley game, regularly stepping to the middle of the court to put the volley away. Following their victory Captain and number 1 singles player Andy Keeley had a tough task competing with Alex Dyter, 4 hcap points his better. A very competitive and close first set was taken by Alex who then accelerated away to take the tie to one match each.

The third match on court saw Algie Nottingham step up against former UK amateur number 1 Nigel Pendrigh. Nigel's experience was clear to see as his patient play conflicted with Algie's fast pace. At 5-5 the first set could have gone either way but fell to Nigel. Remaining positive Algie had a lightning-fast start to the second set which saw him race ahead. He maintained his pace and quality to take the deciding set and put Holyport's nose ahead in the tie. Looking to take the title for Holyport was Simon Constantine, currently playing some of his best tennis and showing the consistency and clarity that we all aspire to. Every part of Simon's game was firing as he dropped just one game on his way to individual and team victory! With the tie won and tension gone it fell to number 1 doubles pair David Barker and Robert Peel to complete the victory lap. Following a slow start they hit the accelerator to stay ahead in both sets and seal the day with a final win.

Many congratulations to the team, including Nick Baker, Simon Talbot-Williams and Richard Lawrence who played in the semi-final victory against Hatfield. Next season Holyport will play in the Pol Roger Trophy, the top tier of UK team tennis, and will be led by new Club Captain Richard Lawrence.
