Club Handicap Singles Winners (Chetwood Trophy) 2010
Sep 03, 2010 - Sep 05, 2010 Royal Tennis Court N Wood
Out of the twenty three clubs, sixteen participants made up the draw, all having won their respective Club Handicap Tournaments. A big thank you goes to Gill Robson for making it all the way from Falkland Palace.
It was an impressive performance by the eventual winner, Tim Akers (Hatfield) beating Graham Piddock (Oxford) in the final, eight games to seven! Tim played with a relaxed confidence throughout and was able to play some smart tennis when, maybe, the fitness aspect of the game were taking its effects! Congratulations to Tim, the second Hatfield House player to have won in the past 3 years.
It is certainly worth commenting on the spirit in which all players competed in this event. Sir Cliff Chetwood, who was a huge supporter of Real Tennis and was a member at The Royal Tennis Court, was an absolute stickler for court etiquette, dress code and fair play. All three were shown by all competitors over the weekend and what would have particularly impressed Sir Cliff was the competitive and courteous nature displayed by both young Sam Willis (MURTC) and Levi Gale (Hyde).
We hope all the competitors enjoyed the hospitality at The Royal Tennis Court and look forward to maybe seeing some of you next year?!
