Thomas C. Shumaker
We are sorry to inform you of the passing of Thomas Shumaker on the 19th January 2015. Tom was a long time member of The Detroit Racquet Club, a great supporter and player of the game.
In the words of his son Nicholas 'A benevolent man, focused and gentle, athletic, sarcastically stern, genuinely altruistic, brimming with humor, a believer in Detroit, and above all a curious one who was open to any conversation with anyone from any cloth making him, thus, a true lover of something called life.'
His passing is a great loss to the Racquets community, and we pass on our condolences to Sharon, Tom Jr. and Nick.
The service was held at 10a.m, Friday the 23rd of January at St.Peter & Paul Church, 629 East Jefferson Avenue, Detroit, Michigan.
Charles Hue Williams writes: Tom Shumaker will be missed by all those of us fortunate enough to have known him at many memorable rackets championships and the weekends of hospitality and friendship given to us by our American and Canadian friends.
Tom was a charming and knowledgable aficionado of our wonderful sport of rackets and his warmth and passion for life was there for all of us to share.
