T&RA Annual Luncheon 2012
The T&RA Annual Luncheon and Awards was held at Queen's Club, with key matches from the Neptune British Open Real Tennis Championship & Neptune Invitational Rackets played around the occasion, by some of the best Rackets and Tennis players in the world.
The Luncheon takes place on Super Saturday (17th Nov) when the semi-finals of both the Rackets and Real Tennis will be played and available to watch. Furthermore, the Rackets Masters will be ongoing, so a chance to also see some famous names from yesteryear in action.
Award Winners
Warburg Trophy - Claire Vigrass This is awarded for the best British men’s or ladies professional performance during the season. Awards will be made either for a single performance in a competition or for an overall performances in several competitions throughout the season. Claire Vigrass was selected to receive the award based on her outstanding achievements including the Ladies Grand Slam in Open Singles and Doubles 2011/2012, Ladies World Champion May 2011, LRTA International May 2012.
Baerlein Cup - Levi Gale This is awarded for the best British men’s or ladies amateur performance during the season. Awards can be made either for a single performance in a competition or for an overall performances in several competitions throughout the season. The decision was made to select Levi Gale to receive the award, winner of the Under 18 Open at Fontainebleau and the Under 18 Junior Open.
Greenwood Trophy - Miles Jackson This trophy is awarded to the most improved men’s, ladies’ professional or amateur player. Miles Jackson started from a lower handicap and is therefore awarded the prize over a fast improving Henry Mullen. Miles effectively halved his handicap (29.5 to 14.7); and Henry’s reduction (46.6 to 27.9) was also spectacular
Henry Johns Cup - John Lumley The recipient must have achieved Level 1 qualification of the Club Professional Development programme, be under the age of 29, be a single figure handicap player and have made a considerable contribution to the game of Real Tennis. John’s victory in the Under 21 singles and doubles and the Under 24 singles and doubles proved more substantial than other candidates. John was also the stand out candidate on last year’s Club Professional Development.
Negretti Cup - Alex Titchener-Barrett . The best Rackets performance by an Amateur. The decision was made to award the Negretti Cup to ATB as the winner of Amateur Singles and Doubles.
Latham Cup - Will Hopton The best Rackets performance by a Professional. After much debate the decision was made to award the Latham Cup to Will Hopton on the basis of his seminal performance against ATB to win the British Open, a result which upset the rankings and was considered to be the best single performance by a professional during the season. In addition, as a first year professional, he won the British Open Singles, UK Pro Singles, Under 24, Noel Bruce, MGR, Clifton Boasters, British Open Doubles.
Renny Trophy - Nick James Most improved Rackets player. Overall Nick James was awarded the Renny Trophy as the player making the most progress in the season, notably the winner of the US Open Doubles, British Open Singles semi-finalist, Amateur Singles finalist and Open Doubles finalist.
