Sir Mervyn Dunnington-Jefferson 2nd Bt
The Tennis & Rackets Association wish to announce that Sir Mervyn Dunnington-Jefferson passed away late on the afternoon of Thursday the 9th of January.
Merv had been a determined competitor over many years at the Queen's Club and Old Etonian Tennis and Rackets weekends but his major contributions to the games came off the court. He served on the Committee of The Queen's Club, the Council and the Rackets Committee of the T&RA and the Amateur Status Committee as well as serving on the OE T&R Committee of which he was a life Vice President.
He was an outstanding Chairman of the Rackets World Championship Committee, his quiet authority helping to resolve many contentious issues on both sides of the Atlantic. His last and perhaps most lasting contribution to Rackets is present at Queen's in the new Rackets Gallery. He will be much missed by his many friends in the UK and the US.
There will be a Memorial Service for Merv on Thursday, March 27th at 12.00 at St Luke’s Church in Sydney Street, Chelsea. You will not be surprised to learn that he wanted a good send off and after the service all will be welcome at Chelsea Town Hall.
