Richard Greenwood MBE DL 18 March 1926 - 29 May 2014
Richard was first co-opted onto the T&RA Council in 1960/61 and assumed the mantle of Joint Hon. Secretary alongside Nigel Renny in 1963. In 1965 he was appointed Joint Hon. Secretary and Treasurer. In 1972 he became the sole, undisputed Hon. Treasurer and Hon. Membership Secretary. The work of Richard as meticulous Treasurer and rapacious Membership Secretary represented the greatest contribution that any one person has ever made to the T&RA in its long and distinguished history. His service continued for over fifty years, culminating in the Presidency between 2004 and 2011.
In addition to all Richard did for the T&RA he was one of six founder members of the old Etonian Rackets and Tennis club and sat on the committee for 54 years. In that time he built the largest membership of the OE sports club.
His support was unbelievable and with others he pursued the building of a Real Tennis court at the school. His dedication to all our sports was immeasurable.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at St Mary's Church, Balcombe at 3 p.m. on Thursday, 3rd of July. Donations if desired to The Colonel's Fund Grenadier Guards or the Dick Bridgeman TRA Foundation c/o Masters & Son, Lindfield, RH16 2LE
