Over 50s Amateur Singles 2015
The British Over 50s Amateur Singles Championship was played at Lord's on 27th, 28th and 29th November. The tournament attracted one of the strongest fields ever seen in this event. Holder David Watson won for the 5th time to draw level with John Ward and now only Howard Angus and Colin Dean have won this event more often. In a remarkable Sunday's work David lost only 6 games in total in beating John Prenn in the semi-final and Simon Shenkman in the final thereby overcoming the World Over 50, Over 55 and Over 60 Amateur Champions.
James Rothman took 4th seed Simon Barker to 3 sets but Barker then proceeded to take the first set off Simon Shenkman in a semi-final which lasted nearly two hours and seemed to leave the winner with little in reserve for the final.
Other notable performance came from Anthony Jenks with a decisive win over Andrew Petrie, the much improved Nick Browne who beat Simon Talbot-Williams to set up a quarter final meeting with Simon Shenkman and Patrick Lawrence QC who led Watson 4-2 in their quarter final before appearing to run out of steam.
Simon Talbot-Williams won the Plate.
