MCC Searching for a Tennis and Squash Professional

Lord’s is looking for a talented athlete to work with and under the tutelage of the Club’s Head and Deputy Head Professionals with the twin aims of delivering excellent service to Members and undertaking general tennis and squash duties.

DIMENSIONS OF ROLE

Five shifts of nine hours rostered between Monday to Sunday, including one-hour unpaid lunch on each day worked; making a total of 40 working hours.

KEY TASKS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the Laws of Real Tennis and the Rules of Squash;

  • Supporting the Head/Deputy Head Professionals with induction sessions, Members’ competitions, inter-club matches etc., including promoting all events to Members;

  • Managing the monthly squash leagues and keeping players informed of their progress;

  • Undertaking squash lessons for beginners and juniors;

  • Managing the annual squash competitions and ensuring they meet set deadlines;

  • Helping to generate tennis court bookings by finding games for Members, recording results and encouraging Members to play;

  • Playing tennis with Members and giving lessons;

  • Ensuring the court, dedans, dressing-rooms and storeroom are clean and tidy and that there is always a supply of clean towels;

  • Making tennis balls and ensuring that there is always a sufficient supply;

  • Stringing racquets and making other racquet repairs;

  • Maintaining accurate court booking and financial records using the T&RA and MCC systems in place;

  • Collecting fees due from Members and other players;

  • Pro-actively selling equipment and clothing from the Professionals’ shop in order to increase revenue; and

  • Representing MCC in local and national tournaments.

  • Carrying out any other reasonable request as directed by the Head/Deputy Head Professionals or Head of Societies & Sports.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS – SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Trained real tennis professional to minimum IiP Level 1.

  • High-level of physical fitness.

  • Strong self-management skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Experienced user of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.

  • Ability to motivate and encourage participation in tennis and squash.

  • High standard of personal presentation.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for successfully engaging with Members, other customers and colleagues.

  • Flexible approach to working hours including evenings and weekend working.
