The (Covid) delayed MCC Gold Racquet Challenge for 2021 was played on 26 March 2022 at Lord's between the holder Ed Kay of Cambridge and nine times winner Jamie Douglas determined to win his tenth.
This he duly did beating Ed Kay 6/1 6/3 6/5. Jamie won most of his points from the hazard end with a series of direct forces into the dedans and from the side wall plus his trademark squash like cross court fizzer landing better than chase three in the service end corner thus putting Ed's backhand under pressure. Ed sustained the pressure as well as he could but it was relentless. He rallied well and looked as though he might take the third set but in the end Jamie's sheer determination prevailed. A terrific contest.
The 2022 Gold Racquet will follow soon. Ed Kay will play Rob Shenkman for the Silver Racquet and the winner will challenge Jamie Douglas.
