LRTA Announces Date, Location and New Rules for the 2025 Ladies World Championships
The Ladies Real Tennis Association (LRTA) is pleased to announce that the next Ladies World Championships will be held in the USA at The National Tennis Club, Newport, Rhode Island, from the 23rd to the 31st of May 2025.
In collaboration with other nations, the LRTA has agreed a new format for this and all future Championships following consultation with the top players around the world. A summary of the new rules is as follows:
The main Singles draw will be competing on a challenger basis.
There will be a total of six players in the Singles, up to four players who are accepted into the main draw and up to two players who gain entry via the Qualifying Singles.
The Qualifying Singles event will be a knockout event for a maximum of eight players not already in the main draw based on RTO singles handicap at the close of entries.
Main draw - If the Champion is playing, they shall be ranked one and all other players ranked on RTO Singles Handicap at time of acceptance of entries. In the first round of matches, held on the same day, Qualifier B will play the third ranked player and Qualifier A will play the fourth ranked player. The winners of these two matches will meet the following day. Day 3 will be a rest day for singles following these matches.
There will be four pairs in the Doubles. If the previous Champions are unable to defend their title, then the top-ranked pair on doubles handicap will meet the fourth-ranked pair, and the second-ranked pair will meet the third ranked pair. Pairs will be selected from the entries received based on combined doubles handicaps at the close of entries.
Qualification for the Singles and Doubles Championships will be based on a player’s RTO singles and doubles handicap six months prior to the date of the championships.
The LRTA plans to publish the complete rules in the near future and is looking forward to showcasing the very best in women's Tennis in this new improved format.
In addition to the above, the LRTA is happy to announce that there will be a Handicap Doubles tournament alongside the main Championships at Newport in May 2025 for all those who wish to support and participate.
Meanwhile, the organisation has also announced that the U19 Girls World Championship will be held in July 2025 at The Tuxedo Club, Tuxedo Park, NY 10987.
