INVITATION SINGLES AND NEW QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
INVITATION SINGLES 8-16 NOVEMBER 2008 €€€€Sponsored by€Neptune Investment Management
The Invitation Singles Tournament 2008, now sponsored by Neptune, will be held at Queen's Club from Saturday 8th Sunday 16th November. The tournament will run in its usual format but the entry system will be different this year. There is a new ranking system, which has been recently approved by the Rackets Committee, which will strongly influence the selection of the top six competitors and the seeding. There will also be a qualifying tournament to determine the last two places (please see details below).
The selected top six players will be announced by 12th October 2008. The eight players who, by ranking or by qualifying, are in the Invitation Singles draw will be informed about playing times by Tuesday 4th November. It is understood this is late notice but timings cannot be determined until we have the availability of all competitors including the two who will have only qualified on Sunday 2nd November. The format predictably is a match on Saturday 8th / Sunday 9th November followed by two matches during the week. All players in the Invitation Singles will be required to play on Sunday 9th Nov (maybe one match on the Saturday as Queen's is holding the Masters over the same weekend).
If you are interested in playing in the Invitation Singles please ensure that you include details of times when you are unable to play from 8th 16th Nov. It would be very helpful if you could state times during the daytime that you could play. Please reply to guyjsb@googlemail.com
Please confirm as soon as possible if you would like to play. At the very latest please reply by 10th October. The top six will be announced on 12th October 2008 when entry forms for the Qualifying Tournament will be sent to all rackets players. This information can also be found at www.tennisandrackets.com
QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT [the 'ISQ']
The Invitation Singles Qualifier 2008, also sponsored by Neptune, is to be held at Marlborough College from Friday 31st October to Sunday 2nd November (play on Friday evening will only be scheduled if absolutely necessary).
The last two places in the Invitation Singles draw can only be taken by those who have qualified from the ISQ. The qualifiers will be the two finalists of the ISQ, or the winner of a third place play-off if either of these two are unable to play. If one or more of the pre-selected 6 players withdraws AFTER the Tuesday which falls 10 days prior to the ISQ, his replacement will depend on the ranking of the third place play-off winner OR it may be another player who was unable to play in the ISQ. The higher ranked player[s] will be invited to enter first.
There will be a Plate competition as well as the main qualifying singles event. Neptune has kindly offered to contribute to the cost of professionals playing in the ISQ.
The€six who are pre-selected for the Invitation Singles will not be allowed to enter the ISQ as it is a qualification event only. Equally if you are not pre-selected and do not enter the ISQ you will not be in line to compete in the Invitation Singles 2008.
