Inaugural Middlesex University British Challenge
The Inaugural Middlesex University British Challenge June 17th -29th 2013.
This tournament, the latest addition to the T&RA calendar, will take place at Hendon next June. Jointly organised by MURTC and the IRTPA, together with Middlesex University it will be for the best eight players, by world ranking and handicap who are either British citizens residing anywhere in the world, amateur or professional, or non-British national professionals who are working full time at a real tennis club in the United Kingdom.
We haven't had a British world champion since Chris Ronaldson lost the title to Wayne Davies in 1987. So the aim of this new tournament is to offer players the chance to play to the world championship format. The quarters and semis will be best of five sets but the final will be played over the challenge format of 13 sets over three days. There will also be a Pro-Am during the fortnight and associated social events. So please put it in your diaries now and watch out for further details on the programme, how to enter and how to get tickets. Any surplus profit generated will go to the charity Myeloma UK.
