His Honour Simon Fawcus 1938-2012
Simon Fawcus, a former president of the Club, died yesterday morning, 12 June 2012, at his home at Marton
As most members will know, he had been ill for some time, but his condition had deteriorated markedly over the last few weeks.
After school and university, Simon practised at the Bar on the Northern Circuit from 1962 until 1985, when he took an appointment as one of Her Majesty’s circuit judges based at the Manchester Crown Court, retiring in 2003.
He joined the Manchester Tennis and Racquet Club shortly after he came to Manchester and was a stalwart of the Club for many years. He was a good all-round sportsman and an enthusiastic and accomplished performer on the tennis court.
Simon was liked and respected by all who knew him. He was the best of company and will be greatly missed.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at Marton Church, Cheshire, on Monday 18th June, at 3.00 p.m.
