Great season for Claire Vigrass
Many tennis players will already be aware of the great progress that Claire, aged 18, has made in tennis this season. Her RTO handicap currently stands at 7.9, believed to be the lowest ever achieved by a lady player.
In the last month or so of the 09-10 tournament season she won the following five titles in the space of a few weeks:
1. T&RA Under 21 Open Singles
2. LRTA British Open Singles
3. LRTA British Open Doubles [with Frederika Adam]
4. LRTA International Invitation Tournament
5. Under-20 Amateur Singles
Claire is currently taking a gap-year with a scholarship at Lord's to pursue her tennis career. She has always been a keen sportswoman, playing hockey and netball to county standard at school until Real Tennis took priority. She tells us that she is now focusing on RT with the ultimate goal of the Ladies World Championship next year.
She has recently taken up rackets too! Her tennis handicap of 7.9 puts her on a level - admittedly there is no direct correlation - with some very capable rackets players. Now wouldn't that be good to see on a rackets court....a lady playing at the top level.
Our congratulations to Claire for making such huge progress and winning so many titles.
