Farewell Adrian Snow
The Oratory remembers former Headmaster, Adrian Snow
The Oratory is saddened to learn of the death of former Headmaster, Adrian Snow. Adrian was also the Court Development Officer for the T&RA for many years and the driving force behind the Tennis court at the Oratory.
“Every pupil must be encouraged to achieve something outside the necessary academic passes” was Adrian Snow’s mantra to his Housemasters. He joined the Oratory teaching staff as Assistant Master in 1966 from Brighton College before becoming Housemaster of FitzAlan House (1967 - 1972), Head of History and Master in Charge of Cricket.
As Headmaster (1972 - 1988), Adrian will be remembered for raising the school’s academic ambitions, as well as for undertaking developments he felt were necessary to compete with rival schools. St John House, the new Chapel and Refectory block, as well as St Philip House (Junior Department as it used to be called) were all developed under his watchful guidance. It is also thanks to his vision and enthusiasm, as a very good Real Tennis player himself, that we have a Real Tennis court (completed in 1989) - the first to have been built for over a 100 years.
Adrian will be missed by so many. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
The funeral will be at St Peter's Church, Cirencester at 2pm on Weds 27 April.
