Ed Kay won the 2022 Silver Racquet at Lords beating Robert Shenkman 6/5 6/1 6/4.
Ed Kay beat Robert Shenkman 3-0 to retain the MCC Silver Racquet.
In the 2022 Silver Racquet, Ed Kay took on Robert Shenkman at the MCC on Sunday 8th May. The first set was a cagey affair with Robert serving well and racing to a 5-2 lead while dominating the service end. Ed managed to up his return of serve to draw back level at 5-5, and held his nerve in the deciding game to sneak the first set 6/5. Ed managed to capitalize on the momentum swing and kept the pressure up throughout the second set to take that 6-1.
In the final set Robert started the stronger and got into his groove, picking off any loose balls that came his way. However, at 4-2 Ed managed to turn the tide back in his favour, and after a couple of well-contested hours, took the match 6/5 6/1 6/4.
Ed will now take on Jamie Douglas on Saturday 25th June in a repeat of the last four gold racquet fixtures. Jamie leads the head-to-head 3-1, with an impressive total of 10 gold racquet victories (6 short of the clubhouse leader - Howard Angus with a whopping 16!).
