Brian Cecil Rich, 19 April 1928 to 17 December 2017
Brian was an orthodontist in Haslemere and had been a member of PHTC since 1976, when he took up the game after many years as a squash player. He was
at one time Chairman of Chichester Tennis and Squash Club.
He rapidly took to Tennis and competed regularly in club events with some degree of success, as well as representing the club in matches. He was
also a member for many years at The Royal Tennis Court where he also achieved competition success.
His playing record is most impressive. He won the World Over 60s Singles in 1989 and 1992; the World Over 60s Doubles in 1990 and 1992. In addition
he was British Over 60s Doubles Champion in 1990 and 1992; British Over 70s Singles Champion in 2000 and 2003; British Over 70s Doubles Champion
in 2000 and 2002.
He was made an Honorary Life Member at PHTC in recognition of his services as club archivist and his enormous contribution as an historian to Tennis
worldwide. The sum of his Tennis knowledge was published in a major book called “Disturb’d with Chacesâ€, co-authored with David Best.
His funeral service will be held on Friday 5th January at the Chichester Crematorium at 16.15, followed by a reception at Stedham Village Hall
at 17.30. (A272 1 mile west of Midhurst)
